Pregnancy Massage in Altona North

Pregnancy massage is remedial massage adapted specifically for the changes pregnancy brings to your body, easing back, hip and round ligament pain, improving circulation, and helping you feel more comfortable as your posture and weight distribution shift. At IWHP, pregnancy massage is delivered by Georgie Gill, who has completed specific pregnancy massage training and treats clients side-lying, so you're comfortable and well-supported throughout your session.

Massage is here to support you through all trimesters, each session is tailored to where you’re at and what your body needs. Because, growing a tiny human is a lot of work, you deserve some looking after too.

Is pregnancy massage safe?

Yes, when delivered by a trained professional. Georgie has completed dedicated pregnancy massage training and adapts positioning and pressure throughout pregnancy to keep you comfortable and safe.

Why do you treat side-lying instead of face down?

Side-lying positioning is more comfortable as your pregnancy progresses and avoids any pressure on your abdomen. Georgie is trained specifically in this technique, so you're fully supported with pillows throughout your treatment.

We do also have a pregnancy pillow that allows for women to safely lay face-down (which a lot of women do enjoy), however our preference is for side-lying.

What’s different about a pregnancy massage compared to a regular remedial massage?

Pregnancy massage uses techniques and positioning adapted specifically for pregnancy — gentler pressure in certain areas, a focus on the aches pregnancy specifically causes (lower back, hips, round ligaments, fluid retention), and a therapist trained to work with you safely at every stage.

Is it safe to exercise during pregnancy?

For most people, yes. Exercise during pregnancy is safe and can help with energy, sleep, mood and preparing your body for labour and recovery. At IWHP, we encourage women to keep up a strength program. Our practitioners tailor programs to each stage of pregnancy, adjusting load and movement as your body changes.

As always, check with your GP or obstetrician before starting or continuing an exercise program during pregnancy.
